Shak is an invention of eggman that went wrong in which the objective was to join shadow, tails and knukcles in one to defeat sonic when eggman went to do the experiment, there was an error in the codes of sonic the hedgehog and the game was mysteriously canceled by sega

definitely taking this game off store shelves

and that would be the supposed end for sonic and his friends

but that's where shak came in. for some reason he was not deleted from this universe and continued to live in this world alone

after a while sonic.exe appeared in shak's world and he wants to help shak with his loneliness because he was starting to go crazy. but it was just a manipulation coming from sonic.exe to finish shak and that's what it did

shak then became a puppet and because of that he had the power to bring his friends back
